NYNL Day 7: Checklist for Determining Goals

Today’s mini-challenge is super easy… in fact, you may have already completed it!

We are just going to check off the things on this checklist from the week.

If you missed something, you have a chance to catch up.
If you’ve done it all, then you’re good to go!

Checklist:

{Determining Goals}

Spend 20 minutes writing the who’s, what’s, where’s, when’s of your 10-year plan.

Make a list of 30 things that you would like to improve about yourself in the future.

Make a list of 30 things that you do well and would like to keep doing in the future.

Categorize your list of 30 things you do well into about 7 categories.

Categorize your list of 30 things you want to improve into your life’s “themes”.

So, this is kind of like a “week in review". Actually, this IS a week in review. If you have participated in all of the mini-challenges from the past week, you may have noticed that they all had to do with actually determining what your goals are, rather than setting them.

Good! Because that’s exactly what we were doing! In order to set goals that we will actually want to follow through with, we need to make sure that they are things that we already want to do and think are important!

I might write down “run a marathon” on my goal list but if I don’t actually care about running a marathon (or running at all), then I’m never going to put in the hard work to accomplish it. Not only that, I'll probably feel like a failure for never doing it. Well, that’s not very fair to me… I don’t want to feel like a failure because I had a goal on my list that I didn’t really care about in the first place!

And that’s why it is the most important thing to examine your own life, tendencies, priorities, patterns, and themes to determine which goals are actually YOURS and which ones on your list are just there because they seem like they should be.

Tomorrow starts Week 2, where we are actually going to work on writing our goals! :)

Was this week easy or difficult for you?
What were some of the things that ended up on your lists?
Did your “themes” surprise you or were they what you expected?
